Brown spots are the results of the ultraviolet of the sun causing your melanocytes to go a little crazy over time producing a permanent staining of the skin. Treatment in the past has been typically done with bleaching creams such as hydroquinone, which would temporarily lighten the spot but not eliminate it. Today treatment is done with laser which is quick, essentially painless, and gives a much more lasting result. With some patients, a combination of laser and Cosmelan® are used.
