Juvéderm® is Allergan‘s [maker of Botox®] entry into the hyaluronic acid fillers and is used as a filler between the collagen and elastin fibers. It is biosynthetic and is non-animal in origin making it non-allergenic. It is injected into the folds and wrinkles of aging skin, plumping and filling to skin to achieve a younger and smoother appearance. Results are immediate and last 4 to 6 months.

Hyaluronic acid is a normal tissue component and provides tissue support, hydration and cushions the underlying structures of the skin. When hyaluronic acid levels decrease, individuals can develop sagging and wrinkle formation. Thus, Juvéderm® can be used to replace the hyaluronic acid. When Juvéderm® is injected, it rapidly replaces the lost volume and raises the skin. This leads to a smoother and softer skin, which appears plump and fresh.

Juvéderm® has been very successful at treating lines and furrows around the eyes and nose and also functions as an excellent volume enhancer. In addition to treating the wrinkles, Juvéderm® is also widely used to augment the lips and plump up the cheeks.
