Dr. O'Reilly graduated in the top 1% of her class from both Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and The Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She completed her internship and residency at St. Francis in Pittsburgh. She has been licensed in five states (currently in California), ran a free clinic for women in New York City, and worked for United States Steel in their Executive Medical Center. In 1980, she became Director of Medicine for Volkswagen of America, with 28 facilities and approximately 20,000 employees under her care. During her 7 years at Volkswagen, she set up Wellness programs for all the employees and quickly realized the health benefits in attaining a normal weight.
