Medicis’s latest hyaluronic acid filler, it is made up of slightly larger particles of hyaluronic acid. It is designed for deeper injections and filling larger folds and voids. Results are immediate.

Perlane® is a newer hyaluronic acid dermal filler obtained from non-animal sources. Perlane® was introduced for treatment of fine lines and wrinkles on the face as well as the treatment of mild acne scars and augmentation of cheeks.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Perlane® poses no risk of allergy because it is not derived from animal sources.

When injected this dermal filler increases the volume and erases fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Like all dermal fillers, Perlane® is not a permanent treatment for wrinkles. However, the effects or Perlane® can last anywhere from 6-12 months. Perlane® has been used to treat a variety of skin disorders including:

• Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and nose
• Mild to moderate acne scars
• Cheek augmentation
• Erase frown lines around the eyes

The injection of Perlane® does not take long. The injections are done with a very fine needle and thus pain is minimal. Local anesthetic prior to the injections can be used.

Once injected, Perlane® has a few side effects all of which are transient and resolve with in a few days. The most common side effects include

• Mild swelling at the site of injections
• Redness
• Swelling
• Itching
• Mild ache
