Rosacea® is a common skin disorder which presents with redness and flushing around the nose, forehead, chin, neck, declotee. It appears to be genetic and chronic in nature. It is caused by vasodilatation of the capillaries brought on by consumption of hot beverages, spicy foods, alcohol and a variety of other foods. Stress and embarrassment can also cause the typical flushing caused by Rosacea®.

Past treatments involved use of topical medications and oral antibiotics, but were less than satisfactory. In recent years, Dr. O‘ Reilly‘s use of a pulse dye laser has become a gold standard in treatment. This laser effectively goes after reds and photocoagulates the blood under the skin causing the capillaries and veins to be eliminated. These capillaries and veins will not return, however because Rosacea® is genetic and chronic in nature, additional treatments 2-4 years out may be required to eliminate any new redness. The treatment is essentially painless with some swelling and redness may be evident for a few days.
